Mayflower was commissioned a U.S. Navy ship in March 1898 and served in the Spanish-American War. In 1904, she was converted to a Presidential yacht, serving the Presidents: T. Roosevelt, Taft, Wilson, Harding, and Coolidge. During WWII, she served as USCGC Mayflower (WPE-183) patrolling the Atlantic coast. Decommissioned in July 1946, she served in various guises as a sealer in the Arctic and in the Mediterranean until purchased by Israel in 1950 and renamed INS Maoz (K 24), serving until 1955.
