Walsh, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary specifically to show the effects of Pellagra. This disease is caused by a lack of the vitamin Niacin, and skin problems are the most common symptom. This photo is very much of its time - cannot imagine a doctor nowadays sending a photographer around to take photos of a patient outside her own front door, or indeed a patient agreeing to be photographed in such a way! paddyhickey kindly contributed the following: "My elderly Aunt - born in Clonmel in 1935 - tells me that she is almost certain the woman in question is Mrs Casey from Garrymore..."
