Residence of Robert Dunsmuir's widow, Joan Olive, 1890-1908. Afterwards, the 27-acres of landscaped grounds was subdivided by the family. Became a convalescent home for soldiers (1914-18), Victoria College (1920-46), headquarters for the Victoria School Board, and home of the Victoria Conservatory of Music. Threatened with demolition in 1959, it has since been preserved as an historic landmark, open to the public for tours.
