It's an utterly superb satellite navigation unit, but is very power hungry when used in this way. In fact, it's SO power hungry that even when plugged into the car USB charger (which is ostensibly 1000mA) it just about holds station on the battery level, and certainly doesn't charge. In a bid to combat this, this rather interesting little module turned up from China today. It's a DC to DC converter, and should be good for pushing out well over 2A.
