It was constructed by Peter Fuoco, a timekeeper and first aid man with a construction crew that was building the western loop of the Big Bend Highway, from a cedar stump that had some human characteristics and stood over the highway at Canoe until it was relocated to Revelstoke after the construction of the Rogers Pass section of the Trans-Canada Highway (1962) and the flooding of the valley behind the Mica Dam (1973).
