Magpie Mine is near the village of Sheldon and dates back to 1740. It is famous for fatal running battles it had with other mines over resources which led to a 'widows' curse' on the men of Magpie Mine after they were implicated - but cleared - of the deaths of some of their competitors. When the mine was closed in 1958 it was the last working lead mine in Derbyshire. It is a standing old ruin which is free for the public to view and explore.

Dunluce Castle is a now-ruined medieval castle in Northern Ireland, the seat of Clan MacDonnell. It is located on the edge of a basalt outcropping in County Antrim (between Portballintrae and Portrush), and is accessible via a bridge connecting it to the mainland. The castle is surrounded by extremely steep drops on either side, which may have been an important factor to the early Christians and Vikings who were drawn to this place where an early Irish fort once stood.

Now a bivouac and military exercise area, the Bois du Loup site and its castle alone reflect the eventful history of the military camp on the Coëtquidan moors.\n- Located in the commune of Augan, the castle of Bois du Loup (2nd of the name) was built from 1871 to 1874 by the owner of the place: Count Roland des Clos de la Fonchais (Birth: 06/10/1821 - Marriage: 27/05/1860 - Death: 20/05/1898).\n- His father : Adolphe des Clos de la Fonchais, captain in the 21st regiment of the line, whose family, originally from Bavaria, had settled in Brittany in the 16th century, had bought the estate of Bois du Loup in 1805.\n- (Work began exactly two years before the military camp was set up).\nThe castle was destroyed by the Americans during their stay at the Coëtquidan camp from January to June 1945.\nThe massive machine-gunning of the façade and the deliberate bombing of the south-east tower (which later collapsed and whose granite stones were used to reinforce the dyke of the Prée-neuve pond), were the subject of a film. This anti-Nazi propaganda film was shown in the schools of Ploërmel and beyond to raise awareness about the alleged German exactions in the region in general and on the local heritage in particular, during the occupation of the camp.

The name Carn Galver means rockpile at the lookout place. Shown is the small pumping and a whim engine house on the St Just - St Ives coastal road (B3306). The mine was worked until 1878. It is open to the public, with no entrance fee, as it is on public land. This mine was never really productive and suffered from drainage problems. It is a piece of Victorian industrial architecture, now a ruin.
