The White Crow or Raven has figured largely in mythology – both as being the original color of the bird before it swallowed the sun (and thus became black as night), as one of the animals released from Noah’s Ark, and also the alternate form of King Arthur of Camelot (and in some cases, Merlin).

The American Crow (Corvus brachyrhynchos) is a large passerine bird common throughout much of North America. The American crow is black, with iridescent feathers. It looks like the Common Raven (Corvus Corax) but is much smaller in size. The American crow was first described by the German ornithologist and pastor Christian Ludwig Brehm in 1822. It is an omnivorous bird and will feed on anything it can find through scavenging or hunting. The intelligent crow is able to modify and use natural tools to obtain food. American crows reach breeding age at two years or more but most do not breed until they are four or five years old. The nesting season starts in early April with birds building stick nests in trees and bushes. A typical clutch is from three to six eggs which are incubated for 18 days. Fledging takes place about 36 days after hatching. This American crow was photographed while perched in a tree by Walnut Canyon Lakes in Flagstaff, Arizona, USA.

Crow with coloured plastic ring in Jardin des Plantes, Paris. To better answer to stakeholders asking how to face disturbances caused by the numerous crows living in Paris city, a research study started in July 2015 under the lead of Frédéric Jiguet, professor at the National Museum of Natural History, following a request by the Paris environment services. Five years later, more than 550 crows have been captured and ringed with coloured plastic rings engraved with a three-digit code, so that people visiting the city can relocate them. Many individuals spend the day in Tuileries but\nmove in late afternoon to join a roost in Jardin\ndes Plantes, which has numerous tall trees.
