Panorama about Cudillero.\nCudillero, as such, begins his particular journey in the 19th century. Its history has invariably been linked to the region of Bajo Nalón and, since its creation, to Pravia, the head of it. Despite that historical connection with the Pravian region, reference can be made to some features that somehow particularize it.\n\nHuman settlement in places of the council, already in Prehistory, is proven with the discovery of carved songs and varied instrumentals in Salamir and La Atalaya, rural nuclei belonging to the parishes of San Martín de Luiña and Santa María de Piñera, respectively.\n\nIf the inhabitants of the council receive the name of cudillerenses, those of the town are known as pixuetos, in clear correspondence with the dominant activity of fishing, since pixueto has its origin in the Latin word piscis and the Germanic ending ottu (Álvarez del Busto). In Cudillero they lived in separate neighborhoods the pipixuetos, installed these in the vicinity of the sea, and the caízos or terrestrial, in the neighborhood of La Cai, which the first completely ignored, keeping them discriminated against.
