Detail of the Great Fountain and the entrance to the Cathedral of Saint Lorenzo in Piazza IV November. Photo was taken in the historic centre of Perugia, Umbria, Italy. Perugia was founded by the Etruscans more than 3000 years ago. Beautiful historical buildings like the stately Corso Vannucci and the Piazza IV Novembre, but also small alleys and cosy terraces make Perugia an absolute must-see destination. It is also a modern city with an international university, a mini-metro and underground escalators which partly run through centuries-old tunnels and then bring you back up to the inner city.

Siena is one of the most beautiful Italian cities of art, in the heart of the Tuscan hills, famous for its immense artistic and historical heritage and for the Palio, where the seventeen old districts of the city compete every year in Piazza del Campo in one of the oldest horse racing in the world. The unfinished structure of the new cathedral on the right side of the Duomo in the medieval heart of Siena, in Tuscany. The construction of the Metropolitan Cathedral or Duomo dedicated to the Assumption of Mary was completed between 1215 and 1348, becoming one of the religious architectural masterpieces of the Romanesque and Italian Gothic style. But in 1339 it was decided to expand the Cathedral, leaving the existing structure as a transept of the new construction. Unfortunately the new and larger cathedral was not completed and the structure of the unfinished main nave (in the photo) is today called the Duomo Nuovo. Siena is one of the most beautiful Italian cities of art, in the heart of the Tuscan hills, famous for its immense artistic and historical heritage and for the Palio, where the seventeen historical districts of the city compete every year in Piazza del Campo in one of the oldest horse racing in the world.
