The Bamiyan Buddhas were two large statues located in Afghanistan, constructed in the 6th to 7th century AD. These statues, made of granite, stood in the city of Bamiyan and were significant cultural symbols. Measuring 38 and 53 meters in height, they were considered masterpieces of Gandhara art.\n\nIn 2001, during the Taliban regime, the statues were deliberately destroyed by military order, sparking widespread international condemnation as a severe act of cultural destruction.
