Auschwitz, Poland - March 28, 2008: Main gate of Auschwitz-Birkenau (Auschwitz I) concentration camp in Poland, where 1.1 million people where killed (90% Jews) by the Nazi army during the World War II (1940-1945). The Soviet troop liverated the camp on January 27 in 1945. In the following decades it became a symbol of the Holocaust. In 1947, Poland founded a museum on the site of Auschwitz I and II, and in 1979 it was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
