Bryce Canyon in southern Utah, USA, is known for its distinctive  geological features: hoodoos. They are tall, thin pillars of sandstone and fine sedimentary rocks that protrude from the bottom of arid basins. Formed by frost-wedging and stream erosion of river and lake bed sedimentary rocks, they have shaped its landscape over millions of years. Rock colors are the result of the oxidation of different minerals within the limestone. The canyon's formation is attributed to the processes of frost-wedging and stream erosion, which have shaped its landscape over millions of years. The Great Plains meet the Rocky Mountains in Wyoming. The state is a great plateau broken by a number of important mountain ranges. In the northwest are the Absaroka, the Owl Creek, Wyoming, Gros Ventre, Wind River and the Teton ranges. In the north central are the Big Horns; in the northeast, the Black Hills; and in the southern portion of Wyoming, the Laramie, Medicine Bow and Sierra Madre ranges.
Bryce Canyon National Park in Southwestern Utah is famous for the largest collection of hoodoos in the world. These hoodoos are tall skinny shafts of rocks that protrude from the bottom of arid basins. At Bryce Canyon, hoodoos range in size from that of a human, to heights exceeding a 10-story building.
