Namutoni Fort (Old Fortress of the German Schutztruppe) at Etosha National Park in Kunene Region, Namibia. It was built in 1896 as a German police post and used as a prison for English prisoners during World War I.  Destroyed in 1904 during the Battle of Namutoni, it was rebuilt a year later and declared a monument in 1947, and restored in 1957. Today it is a completely free to enter monument with no payment required and is located at Namutoni camp.

Elmina, Ghana: wrought iron railing over the central court of Saint George / São Jorge da Mina Castle, bearing the  'W' of the Dutch West India Company ('Geoctroyeerde West-Indische Compagnie', WIC, GWIC, GWC). Built by the Portuguese in 1482, first established as a trade settlement, the castle later became one of the most important stops on the route of the Atlantic slave trade. The Dutch West India Company seized the fort from the Portuguese in 1637.  The slave trade operated under the Dutch until 1814. In 1872, the Dutch Gold Coast, including the fort, became a British possession - colonial architecture - UNESCO World Heritage Site.
