$Dendronephthya Soft Coral and Orange Cup Coral Tubastraea coccinea dominate the scenery at this colorful rock overhang. But there are Feather Star Fishes, Sponges and Colonial Ascidians too and a lot of Anthias and Damselfishes inbetween. \nIn the background there are Wrasses, Breams, Parrotfishes, Surgeonfishes and Butterflyfishes, a high biodiversity.\nTubastraea coccinea, a large-polyp stony coral, is not a reef building species. The coral extends beautiful translucent tentacles at night and in daytime on sunprotected areas of the reef like on this rock overhang. $Sun Coral Tubastraea faulkneri is a large polyp stony coral from the family Dendrophyliidae. The species occurs all over the tropical Indo-Pacific Ocean in a wide depth range of 3-225 meters, often in greater densities on vertical walls and caves. \nThese corals are slow growers and they do not contribute to coral reef development. Unlike many tropical corals, they are azooxanthellate or non-photosynthetic, meaning that they do not live in symbiosis with zooxanthellae in their tissues, allowing them to grow in complete darkness as long as they can capture enough food, usually plankton. \nThey extend their translucent tentacles like these specimen during the late evening and the night, while during the day the tentacles are completely withdrawn. \nTriton Bay, West Papua Province, Indonesia, 3°54'2.454 S 134°6'23.7 E at 14m depth$
