Rather erect shrub to 1.5m. Leaves generally 5 lobed, heart-shaped at base, not aromatic, scarcely hairy beneath. Flower pale green, often tinged with purple, 5mm, in drooping racemes of up to 20 flowers, sepals spreading, hairless; anther-lobes diverging. Berries bright shiny red when ripe, 6-10mm, hairless, acid tasting. \nHabitat: Wet Woodlands, Hedgerows, Fen Carr and Stream Banks. \nFlowering Season: April-May.\nDistribution: Probably native to France, Belgium and Holland, but widely naturalized throughout Europe, except for the extreme north.\n\nThis Picture is made in a Vegetable Garden in the Netherlands.
