Rehmannia, a plant of the family Arnebia, North China
Tall, soft gray-wooly, tufted perennial to 2m. Leaves triangular-oval in outline, toothed, mostly slightly 3-5 lobed. Flowers pale lilac-pink, 25-40mm, solitary or in clusters forming leafy racemes or panicles, anthers purplish-red; epicalyx segments 8-9 linear-lanceolate, velvety like the sepals and leaves. Mericarps hairy.\nHabitat: Upper parts of Salt Marshes, brackish marshes, ditches and stream margins, close to the sea generally and at low attitudes.\nFlowering Season: August-September.\nDistribution: Britain, Belgium, France, Holland, Denmark and Germany.\nEdible marsh-mallow was originally prepared from mucilage obtained from the roots and the plant was formerly used as an ingredient of soothing ointments. Occasionally cultivated today. \n\nThis Picture was made in an Ornamental Garden, during a Vacation in Ireland in the Summer of 2022.

Very variable, low to short, softly hairy annual or biennial , branched at the base. Basal leaves in a lax rosette, elliptical, broadest above the middle, scarcely stalked; stem leaves lanceolate, pointed. Flowers bright gray-blue, saucer shaped, 3-5mm; calyx closed in fruit, the tube with numerous hooked hairs. Nutlets dark brownish-black.\nHabitat: Dry places, arable soils, dunes, to 2000m.\nFlowering Season: April-October.\nDistribution: Throughout Europe, except Spitsbergen.\n\nThis is a common Species in the Netherlands.

Variable low to medium, hairless annual. |Lower leaves broadly oval to spoon-shaped, blunt, untoothed; upper leaves oval to lanceolate, untoothed or slightly toothed; bracts green. Flowers pinkish or bluish, tiny, in flat, umbel-like clusters. Fruit almost rounded, 2mm, compressed in cross-section, smooth or with faint transverse ridges, the calyx reduced to tiny inconspicuous teeth; fruit clusters surrounded by a ruff of bracts.\nHabitat: Arable land and waste land, roadsides, , cliffs, dunes, on sandy or calcareous soils, generally at low attitudes.\nFlowering Season: April-June.\nDistribution: Throughout Europe, except much of the north.\n\nThis is a quite common Weed in the described Habitats in the Netherlands.
