Dietes iridioides, commonly called African Iris and Fortnight Lily, comes from eastern and southern Africa. It is a rhizomatous, evergreen perennial that generally resembles iris and grows 2-4’ tall. It produces fan-shaped clumps of iris-like, narrow, sword-shaped, basal, evergreen leaves. Flowers appear on branched stalks. In frost-free areas, plants bloom spring to fall and intermittently throughout winter. Flowers last one day, but are quickly replaced. Each flower (to 3†wide) is white with yellow and blue markings. Each flower stalk carries a large supply of buds.\nThe name fortnight lily is based on the blooming cycle of the flowers, where new blooms come up approximately every two weeks.

Tot 40-45mm, Ab 26-35mm, Hw 20-27mm.\nThis mobile species is typical of habitats prone to desiccation. It is recognized in most areas by its pale coloration and bicolored pterostigma. Often seen ovipositing in completely dry areas.\nOccurrence:\nA strong wanderer found in Mid and South Europe to the east to Mongolia; may be absent from areas for many years, suddenly establishing large colonies that may persist for years. A southern species that has increased dramatically in northern Europe since the mid 1990s.\nHabitat:\nFavors ephemeral conditions even more than other Lestes species, being typical of sites that dry out early in summer, such as dune slacks, meadow pools and shallow depressions.\nFlight Season:\nFrom March to October in the southern Mediterranean, but in the north most adults probably emerge in June and July, reaching the greatest densities in August.\n\nThis Picture is made in a large Rift with a rich vegetation in Flevoland (the Netherlands) in half of June 2021.

Cowtail Stingray Pastinachus sephen occurs in the tropical Indo-West Pacific in a depth range from 1-60m in lagoons, reef flats and reef faces, but also in rivers far from the sea. The species feeds on bony fishes, worms, shrimp, and crabs. Max legth about 300cm. There is a targeted fishery on this species for its skin, which is used as shagreen in fashion accessories like fancy pens or wallets; as a result, the species is in danger of disappearance. This specimen lies in the white sand of the German Channel in Palau.
