Phoenix Dactylifera or commonly known as the Date Palm, growing in Dubai's cultivated road-side decorative gardens, and part of urban landscaping. This picture shows the trees heavy with fruit that are beginning to ripen. The dates can soon be eaten even before they are sun-dried and preserved; in this stage, they are know as Khlal. The Trees are believed to have originated around the Persian Gulf and there is evidence of cultivation in Eastern Arabia even as early as 6000 BC.
