A view of the beautiful fresco inside a chapel in the Duomo of Spoleto, a medieval town in the Umbria region, central Italy. The fresco, which represents a Madonna and Child between St. John the Baptist and Saint Leonard, was painted in 1497 by Pinturicchio in a small chapel on the right side of the main nave of the cathedral on commission of the bishop Constantine Eroli. The Duomo, or Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta (Cathedral of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary), was built starting from 1067 in Romanesque and Lombard style and consecrated in 1198. Spoleto, one of the most visited medieval cities in Italy, hosts the Festival of the Two Worlds, a world-famous event that brings together hundreds of artists, musicians, classical dancers and opera singers every year. The Umbria region, considered the green lung of Italy for its wooded mountains, is characterized by a perfect integration between nature and the presence of man, in a context of environmental sustainability and healthy life. In addition to its immense artistic and historical heritage, Umbria is famous for its food and wine production and for the high quality of the olive oil produced in these lands.
