Although the border between 29 Palms and the protected Reserve of Joshua Tree National Park (North Entrance) is clearly demarcated politically, in the natural world, they overlap. Many of the native Mojave Desert species found within the Park can also be found in 29 Palms. Among them is a beautiful wildflower known to botany as Gilia Stellata and commonly as Star Gilia. Their Corollas (petals collectively) are in shades of white, purple, or pink. Native ecology can be visualized here because the city has only been partially developed. Long may it remain as such.
