August 28, 2024: The statue of Charles III in Puerta del Sol in Madrid is one of three dedicated to the monarch in the city. However, this is the only one in which he appears on horseback. Of all the statues, it is the most modern and undoubtedly the most well-known due to its location.\n\nThe equestrian statue, made of bronze, is situated on the west side of the square, within a large fountain, next to the Casa de Correos. It faces the center of the open space and the buildings of Hotel Europa and the famous Tío Pepe sign. Although it may seem like an antique, it has been in this square since its creation in 1993.\n\nThe City Council wanted to honor the king known as the best mayor of Madrid due to the improvements the city experienced during his reign. The location was chosen by the people of Madrid, who rejected the area around Puerta de Alcalá and other possibilities. It is believed that a microfilm containing messages from the people of Madrid is stored inside the statue.

Gualdo Tadino, Umbria, Italy, October 02 -- A scene from the traditional Palio di San Michele Arcangelo (Palio of St Archangel Michael) in the medieval town of Gualdo Tadino, in Umbria. An ancient three-day festival that involves the entire community in a traditional Corteo Storico (Historical and Allegoric Parade) and culminates with a donkey race between the four 'contrade' (districts) of this medieval town. In the photo, two jockeys drive a cart pulled by a donkey during the race through the streets of the town. An important center since Roman times, Gualdo Tadino rises between Foligno and Gubbio along the ancient Flaminia consular road, traced by the Romans. Its history spans the entire Middle Ages and, despite being partially destroyed and sacked several times and placed under the dominion of Perugia, this ancient Umbrian center still retains its medieval charm. The Umbria region, considered the green lung of Italy for its wooded mountains, is characterized by a perfect integration between nature and the presence of man, in a context of environmental sustainability and healthy life. In addition to its immense artistic and historical heritage, Umbria is famous for its food and wine production and for the high quality of the olive oil produced in these lands.
