Acacia baileyana, also called Cootamundra waffle, is a large evergreen shrub or small tree, adorned with a wide-spreading canopy and weeping branches, clothed in feathery, finely cut, blue-gray leaves. This is Russian vine (Fallopia baldschuanica), originating from eastern Asia but here growing in Wandsworth, London. This fast-growing vine is related to Japanese knotweed and has similar invasive qualities, needing no invitation to scramble over trees, bushes and walls. Other names for the Russian vine are mile-a-minute vine; China fleece vine; fleece flower and silver lace vine. Earlier scientific names for the same plant are (Fallopia aubertii), (Polygonum baldschuanicum) and (Polygonum aubertii). Some other ecology-related photographs: .

Because the city of 29 Palms has only been partially developed, many Pre Contact species of the Southern Mojave Desert continue to survive in the margins. One such contender is a small shrub with flowers in shades of white and pink known botanically as Eriogonum Fasciculatum. Also known by the common names East Mojave Buckwheat, or California Buck Wheat, they will remain in the locale as long as our efforts towards preservation of native ecology.

Viburnum plicatum, or Japanese snowball, produces 2 to 3 inch wide showy, snowball-type clusters of white flowers in spring. (The flowers in those photos are still greenish, but they are about to turn white.) It is a dense, upright, multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub with somewhat horizontal branching that grows 3 to 4 meters high.
Searsia glauca is an evergreen, densely branched, wind resistant shrub with trifoliate leaves clustered on reddish brown branchlets. With greenish, minuscule flowers, which turn into trays of yellow berries, who then ripened further into reddish brown in late summer. Searsia glauca belongs to the family Anacardiacea and is mostly found along the coastline of southern Africa and it attracts pollinators and birds. I took this picture at Table Mountain National park

HuAll plants are beautiful in their own way, however some are incredibly striking and have a presence beyond their morphology. Erigonum Plumatella, commonly known by Flat Top Buckwheat or Yucca Buckwheat, is gorgeous to behold. Shades of red, purple, and white extend upwards on slender stalks, making a colorful and elegant statement in its native range, which includes the Pioneertown area.
