The Equestrian Monument of Cosimo I is a bronze equestrian statue erected in 1594 in the Piazza della Signoria in Florence, region of Tuscany, Italy. This monument was commissioned by Cosimo's son Ferdinando I from the sculptor Giambologna, who also completed the Rape of the Sabines in the adjacent Loggia dei Lanzi.

The statue depicts Cosimo I de' Medici, the first Grand Duke of Tuscany, on horseback, dressed in full armor and holding a baton.\nThe statue was created by the renowned Italian sculptor Giambologna in the late 16th century. It stands atop a pedestal made of white Carrara marble, which features reliefs depicting scenes from Cosimo's life and the allegories of Justice and Military Virtue.\nThe statue itself is a masterpiece of Renaissance art, with its dynamic composition and attention to detail. Cosimo's horse is shown rearing up on its hind legs, with its front legs lifted as if in motion. The horse's muscles and veins are sculpted with great precision, giving it a sense of strength and vitality. This church is one of the largest and oldest (consecrated in 393 AD) in Florence and the burial place of Medici rulers from Cosimo il Vecchio to Cosimo III. The basilica was begun about 1419 and later in 1518 Michelangelo was commissioned to work on it at the behest of Pope Leo X.

The majestic equestrian statue of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, located in the center of Piazza del Campidoglio (Roman Capitol Square) on the Capitoline Hill, in the historic core of Rome. In the background, a glimpse of the facade and the bell tower of the Palazzo Senatorio, designed with the square by Michelangelo in 1534, actually seat of the Municipal Government of the Eternal City. Considered by the ancient Romans a sacred and indestructible place, the Roman Capitol has always represented one of the most symbolic places of the Roman Forums, as well as the nerve center of the entire Roman civilization. The original equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius, made in gilded bronze around 180 AD, has been preserved since 1981 in the Capitoline Museums. It is the only equestrian statue of the classical era that has survived intact up to our times. In 1980 the historic center of Rome was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
