This fish ladder is on the American River in Rancho Cordova a suburb of Sacramento for assisting with the spawn of Salmon. Nimbus dam is in the background with and the water is called the forebay of the dam, During the spawn after a selective number of returning salmon enter the forebay their is a gate placed across the river leaving an opening for the fish to swim towards and up the ladder and eventually into the hatchery where the eggs are harvested and fertilized.
