It is located in Besshi copper mine in Niihama city, Ehime Prefecture.\nTonaru zone is a city that flourished from early 1900’s by mining copper. Back then, company houses for the miners, schools, theaters, and so on lined the streets, and as many as over 5,000 people lived there during its heyday.\n\nIn the representative remains that were left after the mine was closed, you will see a towering ore storage soon after you enter Tonaru zone, and a former ropeway terminal, which used to transport ore, and more. The crumbling brick structures deep in the mountains suggest a sky city, and they are gathering attention as “the Machu Picchu of the Orient.”
