Antique 19th century playing card shown both front view and back view. The back shows the heads of four British kings and queens within oval shapes, dating from 1760 to 1837. These are H.M. George III, H.M. George IV, H.M. William IV and H.I.M. Queen Victoria. The front shows an ace of clubs by Charles Goodall of London. The aces in this pack feature the flags of Russia, France, Italy and (for the ace of clubs) Germany. The black, white and red horizontal stripes with the iron cross / cross pattée at centre is the North German Confederation Navy Jack (Norddeutscher Bund Kriegsgösch), dating from 1867. The yellow / amber flag dates from around 1870, resembling the Imperial Standard (Kaiser-Standarte) with three black Prussian eagles in each quarter. The crown between the two flags is an 1871 design for a new state crown, created to reflect the new German Empire.
