Otters are one of our top predators, feeding mainly on fish, waterbirds, amphibians and crustaceans. Otters have their cubs in underground burrows, known as a ‘holt’. Excellent and lithe swimmers, the young are in the water by 10 weeks of age. Otters are well suited to a life on the water as they have webbed feet, dense fur to keep them warm and can close their ears and nose when underwater. For the best chances of seeing an otter in the wild, try the west coast of Scotland, the Shetland Islands or some parts of Wales, northern England and East Anglia.

A small, stocky bird with a heavy, finch-like bill. Males have a gray head that contrasts with a black eye-stripe, and black on the collar, throat, and underparts. Females are pale brown with weak streaks on the head, back, and underparts. Similar to Black-crowned Sparrow-Lark, but Ashy-crowned males are told apart by the gray on the head. Females are difficult to distinguish. Inhabits dry scrub, fields, and rocky country. The song is often given in display flight, and consists of monotone whistles interspersed with buzzy notes.

The hamerkop (Scopus umbretta), also known as hammerkop, hammerkopf, hammerhead, hammerhead stork, umbrette, umber bird, tufted umber, or anvilhead. The Canyon Towhee (Melopiza Canyonensis) is a medium sized bird in the family Passerellidae. It is non-migratory and primarily found in the southwestern United States, including Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, and western Texas, as well as northern Mexico. They have a length of about 7 to 9 inches and a wingspan of approximately 11 to 12 inches. The back, wings and tail are a rusty brown color while their belly, head and breast are a pale grayish-brown. The head has a distinctive reddish-brown cap on its crown. The dark-colored bill is thick and conical. Canyon Towhees inhabit arid and semi-arid regions with rocky terrain and scrubby vegetation, such as desert canyons, chaparral, and juniper woodlands. Their diet consists of insects, seeds, fruits, and occasionally small lizards or snakes. This Canyon Towhee was photographed while foraging on the ground at Oracle State Park near Oracle, Arizona, USA.
