Contact details are visible on a poster outside the pub. The origin of the name of this pub is uncertain; there are about 70 in the UK. Some decided to change their names after the Black Lives Matter protests but it is thought the name could be linked to coal mining or chimney sweeps. Most likely, it seems to be the nickname attributed to King Charles II owing to his appearance, and in sympathy to his cause during the reign of Oliver Cromwell in the 17th century. This was why The Black Boy Pub in Sevenoaks recently changed its name to Restoration, reflecting the fact that Charles II was eventually restored to the throne.
