A textured and detailed view of the stunning and majestic frescoed dome of the church of Sant'Agnese in Agone (Saint Agnes) in Piazza Navona, in the historic heart of Rome. This beautiful church, considered an absolute masterpiece of Roman Baroque architecture, according to tradition was built on the site of the martyrdom of Saint Agnes, which took place under the power of Emperor Diocletian in 305 AD. This church with a Greek cross plan is the work of the architects Carlo Rainaldi (1611-1691) and Francesco Borromini (1599-1667), was built between 1652 and 1672 at the request of Pope Innocent X. The marvelous frescoes in the dome are the work of Roman Baroque artist Ciro Ferri (1634–1689). The church dominates the famous Piazza Navona, in the Rione Parione, one of the most beautiful and visited districts of Rome for the presence of countless artistic and historical treasures, monuments and ancient Romanesque and Baroque churches, but also for its squares and alleys to be explored freely, where it is easy to find typical restaurants, small artisan shops, street artists, and the original Roman soul.
