Approaching Joshua Tree National Park toward the North Entrance after winter rainfall will provide realization of many plant species. One which might not be as prominent in drier periods is Thamnosma Montana. Its common name is Turpentine Broom, and during arid episodes, its leafless twigs resemble a sweeping implement. It flowers in shades of captivating dark blue or purple. Taxonomic value can be gained from its fruits which are akin to miniature, semi lobed, citrus fruits. The Genus is related to the Citrus family Rutaceae. They often grow in close proximity to, and/or intermingled up through, other shrubs.
