Minerva Terrace in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
The activity at this terrace, named after the Roman goddess Minerva, known as the patron of artists and sculptors, changes significantly over time. The travertine cascades beside the boardwalks were primarily formed in the 1990s. In certain years, they lie dormant and dry. When dry, the intricate layers and varying depths of the terraces are clearly visible, revealing the complex history of their formation.

Yellowstone NP nature
In Yellowstone, during late May, the waters of the Mammoth Hot Springs flow methodically over the many natural terraces of this geological phenomenon.
This hot spring is characterized by its large, bulbous mound formed by the deposition of travertine, a type of limestone. The travertine is deposited as hot water rich in calcium carbonate flows over the surface, creating terraces and formations that resemble a cascading waterfall of stone.
