This is a very common shot of The Wave. It was taken in 2002 on Fuji Velvia film, thanks to that the sky has rendered a special cobalt blue that I like very much. Back then it was not so difficult to get permission to enter Coyote Buttes North, in fact the day before at the Paria Ranger station there were 10 applicants for 10 permissions. Just as well.
The Dead Sea and its predecessor lakes exhibit spectacular deformation patterns caused by earthquakes along the Dead Sea Fault. The photos exhibit various geological phenomena, including seasonal laminae layering (varves), folds, faults, fractures, dikes, soft sediment deformation, desert landscapes.
These pock-marked formations, usually found along sandstone washes and canyons, have been called “Swiss cheese” and other fanciful names, but are currently referred to by the more prosaic term “solution cavities”. These examples are found in Capitol Reef National Park, Utah.
