Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil: the Saint Anthony Convent (Convento de Santo Antônio) is a historic Franciscan complex founded in the early 17th century, making it one of the oldest religious sites in the city. Located in the Santo Antônio neighborhood, the convent is renowned for its Baroque architecture. Façade detail with the Franciscan Order's coat of arms: two crossed arms - one bare representing Jesus Christ, and the other sleeved symbolizing Saint Francis of Assisi, both bearing the wounds of the crucifixion (the stigmata). These arms are positioned over a cross, reflecting the Franciscans' deep identification with Christ's suffering and their commitment to a life of humility and service. The coat of arms embodies the Franciscan values of poverty, humility, and devotion to the teachings of Christ.
