Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Texas, USA: eroded cliff side - Geologic time periods marked by major changes in the fossil record - rock strata covering the Permian age, Triassic age, Miocene-Pliocene age and at the top the Quaternary age - this cliff includes the Permian-Triassic (P-T) extinction boundary, colloquially known as the Great Dying, that took place about 248 million years ago. The extinction was caused by climate change. The main cause of extinction was the vast amount of carbon dioxide emitted by volcanic eruptions that created the Siberian Traps, which elevated global temperatures and acidified the oceans. Geological time scale, part of the Caprock Escarpment - Texas Panhandle.
This is a rocky sea shore in summer time. You can see waves on water surface. It is sunny day in the picture.

Gobustan, Azerbaijan: concrete-like mud spewing out from a mud volcano - Azerbaijan has the most mud volcanoes in the world, with around 300 of them, around a third of all mud volcanoes in the world, some thought to have medicinal qualities. Their occurrence in the area around Qobustan is closely linked to the local oil and gas deposits.

East exit of Zion National Park / past the Canyon overlook Trail -near and around Checkerboard Mesa : This famous formation was originally named so by Preston P. Patrow, the 3rd superintendent of Zion. Standing at 6,670 feet, it was named for its checkerboard appearance caused by th horizontal cross-bedding of ancient sand dunes and vertical cracking due to expansion and contraction of the sandstone during winter. The unusual crack pattern in the sandstone hills resemble a grid much like you would see on a checkerboard. \nDesert Bighorn, perfectly adapted to survive in severe desert climate are seen between Zion-Mt. Carmel Tunnel & East Entrance.
