Medici Lions at Loggia dei Lanzi at Florence in Tuscany, Italy. These marble sculptures date to the 2nd century AD (a Roman one) and the other one is 16th century pendant. They were displayed at Villa Medici from 1576 and were subsequently (from 1789) placed on show at the open public space of Loggia dei Lanzi. Behind, in focus, is Perseus with the Head of Medusa by Benvenuto Cellini at Loggia dei Lanzi on Piazza della Signoria. This sculpture which is in a public space on a town square was built between 1545-1554.

In Greek mythology, the Erymanthian boar was a mythical creature. This Italian Renaissance marble statue which is free to view for the public in Piazza della Signoria, was completed by Florentine sculptor Baccio Bandinelli between 1525-1534. The boar represents the fourth labour of Heracles, which was to bring it alive to Eurystheus in Mycenae. When the king Eurystheus saw Hercules carrying the boar on his shoulders, he was frightened and hid himself in a bronze vessel.
