Dadaab, Kenya - August 14, 2011: A newly arrived Somalian children refugees play with each other while thier parents waits following their registration and food on August 14, 2011 at the Dadaab refuge complex. UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos toured today the refuge complex holding more that 440,000 refugees during the third day of her visit to southern Somalia and to the Kenya-hosted refugee complex to asses the impact of the famine. Her visit comes as the UN said its moving on two fronts to counter the worsening food crisis in the Horn of Africa, with an immediate infusion of food in an area where 640,000 children alone are threatened with acute malnutrition.

South Horr, Kenya - July 30, 2013: A Samburu women adorned in ceremonial dress prepares a fresh brew of Chai tea in South Horr, Kenya after the birth of a new baby goat. The Samburu survive by their livestock, so the birth of a new goat , camel or sheep is a special occasion. The Samburu will always assist with the birthing process to ensure a trouble free birth. The animals birth acts as good fortune for the family so it is a time for celebration. Economic down turns and the new threat of extremests in the horn of Africa are putting pressure on the samburu to change their way of life but large populations of Samburu people still live a hassel free life in the North of the country.
