Ruin of what is thought to be 17th century church on Achill, the biggest of Ireland's islands. Two earlier churches are thought to have stood at the site, one built by the 16th century 'Pirate Queen' Gráinne Mhaol (Grace O'Malley) and one dating to the 7th century and built by St. Dymphna. Buried in the adjacent graveyards are local victims of Ireland's Great Hunger, or famine, in the mid-1800s and dozens who perished in boating and fire tragedies.
