Tall greyish annual or biennial; stems to 1.9m, stiff and erect, hairless or rather bristly. Leaves oblong, pinnately-lobed, prickly on margins and along the midrib beneath; upper leaves held in a vertical position, deeply lobed, clasping the stem. Flowerheads pale yellow, 11-13mm, in a narrow or pyramidal panicle. Achenes greyish.\nHabitat: Disturbed and waste ground, sand dunes.\nFlowering Season: July-September.\nDistribution: Throughout Europe, except Ireland and the far North.\n\nThis is a common Species in the described Habitats in the Netherlands.

Achillea filipendulina, commonly known as Yarrow or Common Yarrow, is a flowering plant in the family Asteraceae. It is a rhizomatous, spreading, upright to mat-forming. Cultivars extend the range of flower colors to include pink, red, cream, yellow and bicolor pastels. The genus name Achillea refers to Achilles, hero of the Trojan War in Greek mythology, who used the plant medicinally to stop bleeding and to heal the wounds of his soldiers.
The color of the safflower flowers is yellow, but to make it crimson, it is repeated many times to make it crimson, immediately expose it to water and dry it.
