A close-up view straight at the bow of the retired aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy (“the JFK”) at the NAVSEA Inactive Ships Maintenance Facility at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. \n\nThe JFK was originally intended to be nuclear-powered, but it was converted to conventional steam boilers some time after construction had started. It was supposed to be a Kitty Hawk-class carrier, but there were so many modifications, that it became a class of its own, and there were none like it afterwards. \n\nThe JFK was in commission from September 1968 to August 2007. It has recently been sold to a scrapyard for one dollar, but as of January 2024, it is still at the Navy Yard in Philly.
