The King Abdulaziz Camel Festival, often referred to as the Mondial Miss Camel Pageant, is an annual heritage festival with various competitions held in Rimah near Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It was founded in 1999 by a group of local Bedouin who decided to host a competition for the most beautiful camel. \n\nThe competition went on to receive support from the Saudi royal family and due due to its rising popularity, it was turned into a heritage festival with people from across the Gulf travelling to showcase their finest camels. Celebrating the culture and way of life of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Bedouin traditions, today the festival attracts thousands of camels and enthusiasts. \n\nThe second edition of King Abdul Aziz Camel Festival was in early 2018 and had a series of cultural activities under the slogan: ‘Camels and Civilization’.

Petra, built around 300 B.C. by the Nabataean Arabs, is the world famous archaeological site in Jordan's southwestern desert. The series of images were taken in the War Zone of Kuwait by Desmond Stagg just after Desert Storm (17 January 1991 – 28 February 1991) had taken place. I cannot remember the exact date and time when I took the pictures but it was sometime in 1991. The images show the remains of war equipment left by the Iraqis on their hasty retreat back to Irak. Untold amounts of weapons, grenades, tanks, howitzers, vehicles as well as ammunition were left abandoned in the desert. Nearly all the ammunition was still live and dangerous.\nThe date created, below is the date the images were processed. They have remained on my hard disk since the end of Desert Storm. Up until now they are unpublished.\nIn some of the images the sky was grey from the smoke covering the blue sky and sunshine. This was caused by the fires at the oil wells the invading troops had set.\nImage #14 shows the spillage of oil caused by the supply lines being opened allowing the oil to escape and soil the desert ground.

Camel camp near The Pyramids, River Nile, Giza, Cairo, Egypt. The River Nile has always and continues to be a lifeline for Egypt. Trade, communication, agriculture, water and now tourism provide the essential ingredients of life - from the Upper Nile and its cataracts, along its fertile banks to the Lower Nile and Delta. In many ways life has not changed for centuries, with transport often relying on the camel on land and felucca on the river
