Phnom Penh, Cambodia - June 23, 2007: A wooden sign marks the site of a mass grave of victims of the Khmer Rouge, killed between 1975 and 1979, at Choeung Ek, located about 17 kilometers south of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Choeung Ek is the most visited of the sites known as The Killing Fields; many of the 8,895 people killed here were political prisoners kept by the Khmer Rouge in their Tuol Sleng detention center in Phnom Penh. In the background of this picture is a Cambodian girl and a European backpacker reading a guidebook.

Hartmannswillerkopf, ook wel bekend onder de naam Vieil Armand, is een berg in de Vogezen in het zuiden van de Elzas. De piek van de berg ligt op 956 meter boven de zeespiegel en naar het oosten heeft de bezoeker een vrij uitzicht over de vallei van de Rijn. Bij Hartmannswillerkopf werd tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog zwaar gevochten. De strijd tussen het Duitse en Franse leger leidde tot een loopgravenoorlog. Restanten van deze loopgraven en versterkingen zijn op deze locatie nog aanwezig.

Chernivtsi, Ukraine - March 8, 2023: Old headstones are seen at the Jewish cemetery in Chernivtsi. The city, which before WWII had a large Jewish population and in 1908 hosted the World Conference on Yiddish Language, established the cemetery in 1866. Today it contains approximately 50,000 graves.
