It is one of few remaining feudal Japanese castles that retains its main keep in its original wooden form and not a modern concrete reconstruction. Matsuyama Castle, located in Matsuyama-city, Ehime-prefecture, is built in 1627. It was burned by lightning in 1784 and rebuilt in 1854. The castle is nominated as an important cultural property by Japanese government.
