With its highest point only about 4.5 meters (15 feet) above sea level, Tuvalu faces an existential threat from rising sea levels caused by global warming. The country is experiencing coastal erosion, saltwater intrusion into freshwater supplies, and more frequent and severe storms. These challenges are threatening the habitability of the islands, potentially forcing the population to relocate in the future. Tuvalu has become a vocal advocate for global climate action, urging larger nations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provide support for climate adaptation measures in vulnerable countries.
