Stormy clouds over cave dwellings in Taurus Mountains, inhabited by early Christians, dating back to the days when St. Paul's travels in Galatia (Asia Minor), as described in the Bible, in the book of the Acts of the first Apostles.
The Cappadocian plateau itself is composed largely of volcanic ash, with softer tufa intermixed with harder, more durable igneus rocks like basalt and andesite. The rocks of Cappadocia near Göreme eroded into hundreds of spectacular pillars and minaret-like forms. The volcanic deposits are soft rocks that the people of the villages at the heart of the Cappadocia Region carved out to form houses, churches, monasteries. Goreme, Cappadocia, Turkey,

80 kilometers from Kayseri, it is home to interesting rock formations used as dovecotes, caves, shelters, churches and monasteries. As a very old settlement, it is famous for its churches from the Roman period. The most famous of these churches are; St. Barbara (Tahtalı), Karabaş, Kubbeli and Yılanlı churches. The settlement in this sheltered valley, where Christians chose to settle in the 4th century to keep their faith alive, is also intertwined with historical ruins. The people of Soğanlı, who welcome their guests with a smiling face, have another feature: they are the creators of the handmade Soğanlı dolls, each more beautiful than the other, with their colorful clothes and beads. These dolls made of cloth are very popular.

Göreme Historical National Park is a national park in central Turkey. It is located in Nevşehir Province. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985 under the name Goreme National Park and the Rock Sites of Cappadocia. The park features a rocky, water- and wind-eroded landscape with a network of ancient, interconnecting underground settlements. The park area consists of plateaus and high hills. Part of this rugged area consists of basalt and thick beds of tuff. This has been eroded over the millennia to form the multi-coloured cliffs, rock towers, pillars, tent rocks and fairy chimney rock formations
