Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape in Azerbaijan, Aerial view of Gobustan national park in Azerbaijan, Ancient petroglyph depicting human figures in Gobustan, Aerial view of popular destinations in Azerbaijan\n\nGobustan State Historical and Cultural Reserve (Azerbaijani: Qobustan dövlət tarixi-bədii qoruğu) is located west of the settlement of Gobustan, about 40 miles (64 km) southwest of the center of Baku. It was established in 1966, when the area was declared a national historical landmark of Azerbaijan in an attempt to preserve the prehistoric rock carvings, mud volcanoes and musical stones in the region.\n\nGobustan State Historical and Cultural Reserve acquired national status in 2006, and Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2007. As of 2011, the Petroglyph Museum functions in the reserve.
The UNESCO world heritage site contains rocky plateau areas where more than 6,000 rock art engravings were discovered. The famous petroglyphs are the boat and the dancing people.

These rock carvings can be found west of Smirnishamn near the small village of Järrestad.  Järrestads Hällristningar are among the best-preserved rock carvings in Skåne and all of Sweden. The rock carvings are from the Bronze Age (1,500 - 500 BC). You will find depictions of 25 ships and a handful of horsemen, animal figures, weapons, and foot prints
