It is characterized by the usage of karahafu, an undulating bargeboard peculiar to Japan. Karamon are often used at the entrances of Japanese castles, Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines, and have historically been a symbol of authority.

The torii that stands on Kamiiso, the land where the gods landed, is one of the torii gates of Oarai Isosaki Shrine on the hill along the coast. The torii gate in the sea is very rare.
