Remains of a remote, hidden ancient ruins - a Sinagua Indian cliff dwelling - viewed from its easiest approach by level ground. The stone wall part way up the hill defines the outside perimeter of the dwelling, within which existed interior stone walls defining various living spaces. Exterior walls were built of loose volcanic rock stacked on top of existing volcanic rock and boulders. There is one main entrance through this front wall, with small adjacent holes in the rock placement through which arrows could be fired if enemies threatened. A secondary access and egress point is availabe to occupants higher up in the dwelling. The far side of the dwelling is a sheer cliff dropping down to a long steep hill down to a dry riverbed. Site selection was critical for the Sinagua, and perfectly executed here. This culture combined hunting and gathering with agriculture, but the latter was challenging in this arrid, wilderness terrain. The exact site location, which requires considerable effort to reach, is intentionally omitted. Its estimated age dates to 1300 AD - 1400 AD.
