The American Goldfinch (Carduelis tristis) is the state bird of Washington, Iowa and New Jersey. It is a fairly common summer resident to the Pacific Northwest, migrating to the southern USA and Mexico in the winter. This female, perched on a branch, was photographed in Edgewood, Washington State, USA.
