The Green Hairstreak holds its wings closed, except in flight, showing only the green underside with its faint white streak. The extent of this white marking is very variable; it is frequently reduced to a few white dots and may be almost absent. Pyronia tithonus is a common resident in the Netherlands and has its centre of occurrence in the North-Eastern and Southern Part of the Netherlands.\nHabitat: Gatekeeper occurs mainly in rough, scrubby, flowery grassland vegetation, often in half-shaded places, usually with some woodland nearby. Also in heath land with some trees.\nFlying Season:\nIt flies in one generation from mid-July until mid-August and hibernates as a half-grown caterpillar.\n\nThis Picture is made in the Dwingelderveld (Drenthe) in August of 2022.
This beautiful and elegant butterfly is a change from a pretty scary caterpillar, it takes a few days to process a caterpillar that was initially so frightening into a beautiful butterfly, that is the power of God that is extraordinary.
