This mountain lion prowls the Secret Canyon near Los Angeles, the Santa Monica Pier and the Pacific Ocean. Mountain lions are also known as cougars and pumas. There are only two megacities with urban big cats - Mumbai and Los Angeles. The cougar in this picture lives in the Santa Monica Mountains and is surrounded by deadly freeways along with other wildlife such as foxes, bobcats, deer and increasingly, people. The world’s largest wildlife crossing (The Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing) is helping these animals survive by giving them interconnectivity to improve their genetic diversity.
